DIRCO to host Africa Heads of Missions Conference

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) will host the Africa Heads of Missions Conference on 28 January 2020 in Pretoria.

The purpose of the conference is to brief South African diplomats posted across the African continent on the expectations for South Africa’s role as Chair of the African Union (AU) for the year 2020.

The event will provide an opportunity for deliberation on the strategic orientation our country should take for the duration of its tenure as Chair of the AU.

South Africa will assume the Chairship of the AU at the 33rd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 08-09 February 2020.

Additionally, South Africa will concurrently Chair the Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and the AU Committee of Heads of State on Climate Change (CAHOSOCC).
