President Ramaphosa to address virtual UNGA75 Summit on Biodiversity
President Cyril Ramaphosa will tomorrow, Wednesday, 30 September 2020, address a virtual Summit on Biodiversity that is taking place on the side-line of the 75th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA75).
The Summit on Biodiversity, themed “Urgent action on biodiversity for sustainable development”, will highlight the need for urgent action at the highest levels in support of a post-2020 global biodiversity framework to be adopted at the 15th Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in 2021.
This framework will contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and place the global community on a path towards realising the goal of the 2050 Vision for Biodiversity with the theme “Living in harmony with nature”.
UNGA75 commenced on 18 September 2020 under the theme: “The Future We Want, the UN We Need: Reaffirming our Collective Commitment to Multilateralism” with the Paris Agreement on Climate Change as one of the overarching issues expected to be dominant and of relevance to South Africa.
