Minister Pandor hosts webinar with women diplomats on gender equality

The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr Naledi Pandor, will on Friday, 14 August 2020, host a webinar, which forms part of a series of activities marking the Women’s Month.

The webinar will take place under the theme: “Generation Equality: Realising women’s rights for an equal future”. The concept of Generation Equality is a global campaign and links South Africa to efforts to achieve gender equality by 2030.

The other speakers include the UN Resident Coordinator, HE Nardos Bekele-Thomas, and the ambassadors of Palestine (HE Hanan Jarrar), Kenya (HE Jean Njeri Kamau) and Venezuela (HE Mairin Josefina).

It is expected that the event will highlight the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is having, particularly in relation to the reported increase in domestic violence and abuse.

The event will also shine a spotlight on efforts aimed at overcoming the social and economic fallout of COVID-19, paying specific attention to the measures to support and protect women.
