Closing Remarks by Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Republic of South Africa, on the occasion of the Inaugural Session of the Bi-National Commission (BNC) between the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Namibia, 6 November 2013
Your Excellency, Minister Nandi-Ndaitwah,
Honourable Ministers,
Senior Government Officials,
We have now come to the end of a very fruitful interaction. Positive deliberations and the reports from the various Clusters attest to this.
Much progress has been made in the implementation of the important Agreements and memoranda of understanding which our two countries had signed.
However, the Inaugural Session of our Bi-National Commission places a burden on us to strive for more consistent interaction between key sectors, as well as adopting a strategic approach to all our cooperation.
We live in a rapidly changing world where formerly secure economies are floundering, where even our very climate is under threat. The best way to deal with this is by ensuring that the many Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding between our two countries are implemented, followed up and above all delivering.
I have noted the cooperation in the field of Science and Technology, the Environment, Trade and Industry and Energy and Education. These sectors are amongst the keys to our future and I would like to urge the different Ministries and Departments to remain vigilant and active.
Honourable Ministers
Our two countries will be meeting yearly now. I believe that the decisions we have taken today will maintain the required momentum for the implementation processes. Our Heads of State have shown us the way. Let us work towards creating a special and strategic cooperation.
Ladies and gentlemen,
At regional level, our countries remain committed to the SADC regional integration and we are working together to promote peace and stability in the region and the Continent.
Co-Chair, Ladies and gentlemen,
Let me once again, take this opportunity to thank each one of you for the friendly manner in which you have contributed to the discussions.
I also wish to thank the senior officials for the quality and comprehensive report which they have collectively presented to us here today.
Lastly, I take this opportunity to thank the Government and the Namibian people, friends and comrades for hosting us so beautifully.
I thank you
