FOSABU Golf Day, 26 October 2019.
 
On 26 October 2019, members of the Forum of South African Businesses in Uganda (FOSABU) organised their annual Golf Day event at Kitante Golf Course, Kampala.

These are over 70 South African companies operating in Uganda and they formed this umbrella body in December 2015 to strengthen trade and investment between South Africa and Uganda.

FOSABU organises this event annually and proceeds are channeled to charity to help those in need.  80 players participated in the game.

This year, FOSABU partnered with Kampala Golf Club.

Sponsors of the event included MTN Uganda, Eskom Uganda, Stanbic Bank, ABSA, Marsh, Golf 100, Record TV, Sun international, and Multichoice.

FOSABU Inaugural Business Summit, 22 October 2019.
 
The Forum of South African Businesses in Uganda (FOSABU) in partnership with the South African High Commission organised the FOSABU Inaugural Business Summit in Kampala, Uganda under the theme “Trade, the Connector and Driver of Inclusive Growth in Africa”.  The Summit was held at Commonwealth Speke Resort Munyonyo, on 22 October 2019.  This was the first FOSABU Summit held in Kampala and Mr Patrick Mweheire, FOSABU Deputy Chairperson and Managing Director of Stanbic Bank Uganda invited guests to the next Summit in 2020.

Right Honourable Ruhakana Rugunda, Prime Minister of Uganda was the Guest of Honour and Hon. Oryem Okello, State Minister of International Affairs delivered remarks.

Mandela Day 2019

The Mission in Kampala organised the Mandela Day 2019 at Graca Machel Skills Development Centre under the theme “Action Against Poverty”, on 18 July 2019.  The pictures reflect donations made amongst others;

CONFERMENT OF MRS WINNIE MADIKIZELA MANDELA BY MAKERERE UNIVERSITY, JANUARY 2018

In January 2018, Mrs Winnie Madikizela Mandela was honoured by Makerere University in Uganda with Honorary Doctorate Degree in Laws for her contribution in the fight against apartheid in particular and Africa in general.  Ms Gandhi Baai, her niece received the award on her behalf.

TRIBUTE TO MRS WINNIE MADIKIZELA MANDELA, 02 APRIL 2018

The Mission in Kampala, Uganda opened the Book of Condolences on the passing away of Mrs Winnie Madikizela Mandela on 02 April 2018.  The following dignitaries amongst others visited the Mission to sign the Book:

FREEDOM DAY 2018

On 27 April 2018, the Mission in Kampala, Uganda organised the Freedom Day 2018 at Sheraton Hotel, Kampala.  The Guest of Honour was the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of Uganda, Hon. Kahinda Otafiire.  High Commissioner Lekoa Solly Mollo delivered Address.  The well-known jazz musician, Isaiah Katumwa from Uganda and Siphokazi Mohapi from South Africa entertained the guests.  The event culminated in the jazz concert at Serena Hotel on 30 April 2018, featuring Isaiah Katumwa, Siphokazi Mohapi and   Manu Dibango

Celebrating Oliver Reginald Tambo centenary organised the O.R.Tambo Memorial Lecture and used the opportunity to launch the Uganda Chapter of the African Liberation Heritage Route.  The event was held at O.R.Tambo School of Leadership in Kaweweta, Uganda on 27 October 2017.  The Guest of Honour was the Hon. Kahinda Otafiire, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of Uganda.  Adv. Sonwabile Mancotywa, CEO of the National Heritage Council of South Africa delivered the Key Note Address.
 
Mandela Memorial Lecture at Makerere University and was launched by H.E. Yoweri Museveni, President of Uganda.  Makerere University will host the event annually to celebrate the legacy of Mr Mandela. Ms Zoleka Mandela, granddaughter of Mr Mandela delivered the Key Note Address.
 

Mandela Day at Kiteenzi Primary School and Centre for Children with Disability on 18 July 2017.  The High Commission and partners donated foodstuff, painted the school and assisted in maintenance of vegetable garden.

 
FREEDOM DAY EVENT, 28 APRIL 2017

The Mission in Kampala, Uganda hosted its 2017 Freedom Day at the Sheraton Hotel on Friday, 28 April 2017.  The event was hosted in partnership with a number of South African companies based in Uganda, under the umbrella of the Forum of South African Businesses in Uganda (FOSABU), which sponsored the event.

The Guest of Honour was the Honourable, Mr Oryem Okello, Minister of State for International Affairs of Uganda. He expressed appreciation on the manner in which the High Commissioner of South Africa to Uganda, Prof. Maj.Gen.Solly Mollo, had engaged with the Ugandans since his arrival as well as for his initiatives to enhance good bilateral relations between South Africa and Uganda.

A Ugandan Church Choir which has visited South Africa on numerous occasions, "Our Lady of Africa Choir", provided excellent renditions of the Ugandan and South African National Anthems and, thanks to the support of the South African companies based in Uganda, the Soweto String Quartet entertained the 500 guests with wonderful South African music for the rest of the evening.

Activity : First of its kind Nelson Mandela Lecture to be organised in Uganda and Mr Mac Maharaj, former Minister of Transport, and former Spokesperson of President Jacob Zuma delivered the Key Note Address and Closing Remarks made by the Hon. Justice Jotham Tumwesigye of the Supreme Court of Uganda. Programme Director was the CEO of New Vision Media of Uganda.

Panellists included Mr James Akena, Member of Parliament for Lira Municipality; Mrs Victoria Sekitoleko, former Minister of Agriculture of Uganda; and Mr Robert Mwesiga, NEC Member of the ruling Party (NRM).

Freedom Day Celebrations
 
The High Commission of South Africa in Uganda held its Freedom Day celebration at Ndere Cultural Centre, Kampala, on 29 April 2016.  The Guest of Honour was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, Mr Sam Kutesa.  The event was sponsored by the South African companies under the umbrella of the Forum of South African Businesses in Uganda (FOSABU).  The Umoja Troupe from Johannesburg performed and entertained guests of 500 government officials, business community, media and South Africans living and working in Uganda.
