Passport Requirements: The People’s Bureau of the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya

The People’s Bureau of the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya has instituted the following requirement with regard to foreign passports with effect from 10 November 2007:

  • No foreign citizen with an entry visa to the Great Jamahiriya will be allowed to enter the country if his or her passport is not translated into the Arabic language. Diplomats and senior government officials who arrive in the Great Jamahiriya are exempted.
  • In practice the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya is insisting that an Arabic translation of the biographical detail of the passport holder be pasted in the visitor’s passport.

Such an amendment to a South African passport is not allowed.
