IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION REGARDING SOUTH AFRICA’S REPRESENTATION IN HO CHI MINH CITY
The South African Embassy to Vietnam wishes to inform that the Honorary Consulate of South Africa in Ho Chi Minh City has been closed with immediate effect.
The office concerned has ceased all functions and activities related to its previous status as Honorary Consulate and will not receive any new applications or documentation related to those functions that the Honorary Consulate used to exercise, including but not limited to visa, immigration, civic or consular matters.
Such applications and documentation as may already have been submitted previously to the Honorary Consulate will still be processed in the normal manner. The Embassy in its turn will respond directly to the applicants, for example forwarding passports with visas directly by post and not via the Honorary Consulate.
Members of the public living in Ho Chi Minh City who might usually make use of the services of the Honorary Consulate are advised that applications for tourist visas and other categories of temporary residence can be sent by post directly to the Embassy.
Further, more detailed guidance will be provided in due course, but you are warmly invited to contact the Embassy for any clarification or assistance that might be required, at E-mail consular.hanoi@dirco.gov.za or Tel (024) 3936 2000.
The Embassy is at your full disposal to adapt to this change as smoothly as possible.
THÔNG BÁO QUAN TRỌNG LIÊN QUAN ĐẾN CƠ QUAN ĐẠI DIỆN CỦA NAM PHI TẠI THÀNH PHỐ HỒ CHÍ MINH
Đại sứ quán Nam Phi tại Việt Nam xin thông báo Lãnh sự Danh dự của Nam Phi tại Thành phố Hồ Chi Minh bị đóng cửa và có hiệu lực ngay lập tức.
Văn phòng Lãnh sự Danh dự đã dừng tất cả các hoạt động và chức năng liên quan đến chức danh Lãnh sự Danh dự và sẽ không nhận bất kỳ giấy tờ hay hồ sơ mới nào liên quan đến những chức năng của Lãnh sự Danh dự, bao gồm nhưng không giới hạn thủ tục xin thị thực, xuất nhập cảnh, những vấn đề dân sự hoặc lãnh sự.
Những tài liệu và hồ sơ đã được nộp cho Lãnh sự Danh dự trước thông báo này vẫn sẽ được giải quyết như bình thường. Về phía Đại sứ quán các hồ sơ sẽ được trả lời trực tiếp, ví dụ hộ chiếu kèm thị thực sẽ được chuyển phát trực tiếp qua đường bưu điện mà không qua Lãnh sự Danh dự.
Công dân sống tại Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh thường sử dụng dịch vụ của Lãnh sự Danh dự có thể gửi trực tiếp hồ sơ xin thị thực du lịch và các hạng mục tạm trú khác đến Đại sứ quán thông qua đường bưu điện.
Hướng dẫn chi tiết sẽ được cung cấp thêm, tuy nhiên bạn có thể liên lạc Đại sứ quán để được hỗ trợ và làm rõ nếu cần. Thông tin liên lạc qua E-mail: consular.hanoi@dirco.gov.za hoặc điện thoại: (024) 3936 2000.

The South African Defence Attaché to Vietnam, Captain (SA Navy) and Mrs Dudley on 9 August 2022 hosted a reception in celebration of South Africa’s Women’s Day. In attendance were female diplomats and spouses of Defence Attachés. Ambassador Tulelo delivered the keynote address, providing context to the significance of this date in the history of South Africa. On 9 August 1956, about 20 000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria, the seat of government, to protest against legislation aimed at tightening the apartheid government's control over the movement of black women in urban areas by expanding the hated pass laws to include them.
Ngày 9 tháng 8 năm 2022, Tuỳ viên Quân sự Nam Phi tại Việt Nam, Đại tá Dudley (Hải quân Nam Phi) và vợ đã tổ chức tiệc chiêu đãi nhân ngày Phụ nữ Nam Phi. Tham gia tiệc chiêu đãi có các nữ ngoại giao và phu nhân của các Tuỳ viên Quân sự. Đại sứ Tulelo đã có một bài phát biểu quan trọng, kể về bối cảnh dẫn đến tầm quan trọng của ngày này trong lịch sử Nam Phi. Vào ngày 9 tháng 8 năm 1956, có khoảng 20 000 phụ nữ diễu hành đến Toà nhà Liên hiệp tại Pretoria, trụ sở của chính phủ, để phản đối đạo luật nhằm thắt chặt sự kiểm soát của chính phủ phân biệt chủng tộc a-par-thai đối với việc di chuyển của phụ nữ da màu ở các khu vực thành thị bằng cách mở rộng luật thông hành bị ghét bỏ. |

| Nelson Mandela International Day |
The South African Embassy in Hanoi in partnership with the Melia Hanoi Hotel and the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion of Vietnam hosted a blood donation drive in honour of Mandela Day. Ambassador-Designate Vuyiswa Tulelo participated in the drive and was able to conduct a couple of interviews, including donating blood herself.

VACCINATION OF FOREIGN NATIONALS IN HO CHI MINH CITY IN 21 DISTRICTS AD THU DUC CITY
The Embassy wish to share the below information regarding COVID-19 vaccination for all foreign nationals in HCMC and Thu Duc City.
Ho Chi Minh City will implement COVID-19 vaccination for all foreign nationals in the city from 10 September 2021. The vaccination will be carried out at the residence areas of foreign nationals in 21 districts and Thu Duc City. The People’s Committees of districts and Thu Duc City will send out the invitations via emails or mobile numbers of foreign nationals to inform the times and venues for vaccination and to facilitate their travel to the vaccination venues.
All the nationals residing in 21 districts and Thu Duc City who wish to get vaccinated against COVID-19 to register for vaccination must provide all the necessary information by entering the link or scan the following QR code:

Note: Each individual only registers once on the system and shall register by 15 September 2021 for timely preparation for the vaccination.

I LIVE ABROAD. CAN I REGISTER AND VOTE IN THE 2021 ELECTIONS?
By law, South Africans who live abroad can only vote in South Africa’s NATIONAL elections (not provincial or municipal elections).
To vote in Municipal Elections you must be registered where you live in South Africa and then vote where you are registered.
Unless you are already registered to vote in South Africa and are planning to return to South Africa in time for the elections on 27 October 2021, you will not be able to vote in South Africa’s 2021 Municipal Elections.
Municipal or local government elections are, by their nature, about electing local representatives for the area in which you live in South Africa.

On 22 June 2021, Ambassador MK Lekgoro had a fruitful meeting with Ms Ha Thi Nga, President of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU), to discuss cooperation between relevant institutions from the two countries in promoting the rights of women. The VWU was established in 1930 as a socio-political organisation with the aim of protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of Vietnamese women from all walks of life. The governments of South Africa and Vietnam share a common commitment to promoting women's rights and gender equality, which creates the opportunity for closer cooperation in this field.

During a handover ceremony on 1 June 2021, the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam received 56 rhino horn samples from the Vietnam CITES Management Authority for onward transmission to the South African CITES Management Authority for DNA testing in order to establish the origin of the rhino horn confiscated by the Vietnamese authorities. The event marked the joint commitment of the two countries to act decisively against illegal trafficking in wildlife products and to protect these magnificent beasts from extinction. In the photos, H.E. Mr MK Lekgoro, South African Ambassador to Vietnam and Dr. Vuong Tien Manh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam CITES Management Authority at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development sign the handover certificate and Ambassador Lekgoro takes official possession of the samples. After the signing, they joined the other attendees for a group photo.
Trong buổi lễ bàn giao vào ngày 1 tháng 6 năm 2021, Đại sứ quán nước Cộng hòa Nam Phi tại nước Công hòa Xã hội Chủ nghĩa Việt Nam đã nhận 56 mẫu sừng tê giác từ Cơ quan Quản lý CITES Việt Nam để chuyển cho Cơ quan Quản lý CITES Nam Phi, phục vụ cho việc xét nghiệm ADN nhằm tìm ra nguồn gốc của sừng tê do Cơ quan Chức năng Việt Nam tịch thu được. Sự kiện đánh dấu cam kết chung của hai nước để hành động dứt khoát chống lại nạn buôn bán bất hợp pháp các sản phẩm từ động vật hoang dã và để bảo vệ những loài thú tráng lệ này khỏi nạn tuyệt chủng. A PLEA TO SOUTH AFRICANS TO HEED THIS CALL
Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngọc Dung has called for tightened control over foreigners working in Viet Nam.
In a recent dispatch to Chairpersons of municipal and provincial People’s Committees, he said provincial and municipal authorities should consider deporting foreign workers without work permits or those failing to comply with entry and exit rules applicable to foreigners in Viet Nam.
The South African Embassy is aware that there may be South African citizens who will be negatively affected by this step from the Vietnamese authorities.
You are kindly requested to make sure that you are not found to be in conflict with the Viet Nam law in terms of visas and work permits.
The Embassy is in no position to protect South African nationals who are in conflict with laws of Viet Nam. In such cases the legal processes of Viet Nam take their course.
The South African Embassy does not offer any financial assistance regarding repatriations back to South Africa or any other matter relating to your stay in Vietnam. |

On 13 May 2021, Ambassador MK Lekgoro held fruitful talks with Dr Pham Lan Dung, Acting President of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and Director-General of the Foreign Service Training Centre, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam. They exchanged information on the activities of the countries’ respective diplomatic academies and explored areas of possible cooperation between the institutions.

South Africa’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr MK Lekgoro, represented South Africa, on behalf of the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr Naledi Pandor, at the International Conference on Women, Peace and Security on the theme “Strengthening Women’s Role in Building and Sustaining Peace: From Commitments to Results” that was presented in physical and virtual format by the Government of Vietnam from 7-9 December 2020, with the support of the United Nations.
On 8 December the Ambassador co-chaired, on behalf of the Minister, the break-away session on “Strengthening women’s representation and participation in peace processes and post-conflict peacebuilding”.

The South African Embassy participated in the International Food Festival presented by the Service Department for the Diplomatic Corps (DSD) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam (MOFA) on 6 December 2020 at the Diplomatic Compound in Hanoi. The South African booth proved popular, attracting large numbers of people, and with Ambassador Lekgoro proving adept at promoting South African wine.

On 10 November 2020, Ambassador MK Lekgoro attended the virtual signing ceremony during the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting on which occasion the Minister of International Cooperation and Development of South Africa, Dr Naledi Pandor, signed South Africa’s Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in South East Asia.
