- Issuance of diplomatic / official visas to diplomatic and official passport holders including the accreditation of foreign diplomats in South Africa.
- Assistance to South African citizens abroad viz. (Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, Article 5):
- Assist and render advice on emergency evacuation for SA citizens abroad as a result of natural or manmade disasters, political unrest and war. No financial responsibility.
- Regular meetings and communication with SA ex-pat community abroad.
- Addressing collective problems of the ex-pat community abroad, excluding private contractual obligations.
- Registration of all SA citizens abroad – through ROSA (Register of South Africans Abroad) and the DIRCO Smart App. Kindly download the Smart App and register.
- Implementation and management of warden systems.
- Support and non-financial assistance to rape victims, sick, injured and hospitalised SA citizens.
- Assist with transport arrangements of mortal remains of deceased SA citizens back to SA.
- Assistance and support to detained SA citizens, validity of charges, court hearings, visits to prisons, communication line to families, insurance that all SA citizens are always treated humanely, etc.
- Determining whereabouts of missing, kidnapped and abducted citizens in liaison with SAPS and local authorities.
- Assist SA citizens in distress to find shelter if required, within regulations applying for non-financial assistance.
- Authentication of documents.

Depending on the service required, a valid form of South African identification will be requested. You may wish to call the Embassy to determine the processes / documents that will be required prior to your arrival – especially if you are based outside or far from Jakarta.

What Consular Officers Can Do for You
The consular officials can:
- Give you some general information about the legal system of the country you are being held in.
- Arrange for your next of kin to be notified of your situation, if you wish. (If you do not want your family notified, your request will be respected, and the mission will withhold information about your situation from your family and friends.
- Assist in planning to receive funds from your family.
- Assist in informing you of how to make other travel arrangements if necessary.

What Your Consular Officers Cannot Do for You
- Obtain a better treatment for you than is provided for locals or other nationals.
- Pay your fines.
- Conduct investigations related to an offence.
- Support you financially. If you are unable to pay essential costs yourself or earn money by working, you will have to contact you family or friends for financial support.
- If you are a dual national in the country of your other nationality, the assistance which South African consular representatives can give you may be limited.

AGENCY SERVICES
South African Police Services (SAPS):
- Assist and support defrauded SA citizens, reporting SCAMS and other fraudulent activities to Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and SAPS vice versa, same with information on drug and human trafficking cases, assist SAPS, Interpol and Justice with investigations, obtain / exchange of information.
- Assist South African citizens applying for Police Clearance with fingerprints and they should apply online directly with SAPS in Pretoria.
Department of Justice and Correctional Services:
- Extradition of fugitives.
- Estates and wills – handling of enquiries.
- Legal assistance and legal aid – handling of enquiries.
- Evidence on commission upon instruction.
- Service of Process (edictal citation, rogatory letters, maintenance orders).
- Civil judgements.
- Notarial functions.
- Serving as Commissioner of Oaths.

Authentication of Documents:
- These documents could be Powers of Attorney, Affidavits, Declarations etc.
- The South African Embassy works strictly on an appointment basis. Appointment should be booked on:jakarta.consular@dirco.gov.za and an available spot would be confirmed to you.
- Should your matter be urgent and you cannot get an appointment in the time needed, you are advised to use the services of a UK Notary. This can be done in terms of Rule 63 2 (e) of the Rules of the High Court of South Africa. It is essential that you first speak to your South African lawyer before using the services of a Notary Public in Indonesia.

LEGALISATION OF DOCUMENTS ISSUED IN SOUTH AFRICA FOR USE IN INDONESIA
The Embassy receives birth, marriage and death certificates issued in South Africa and Police Clearance Certificate issued by the SAPS (South African Police Services) and forwards them to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) in Pretoria so that an Apostille is affixed to them. The service is free of charge, and the Embassy would notify you by email once your document has been received back from Head Office.
The legalization of Study Certificates (degrees, diplomas, transcripts, etc.) issued in South Africa is NOT handled through the Embassy. Interested persons must take the following steps:
- Degree/Diploma Certificates must be firstly legalized by the Chief Registrar of the High Court that corresponds to the area where the document has been issued.
- Then it must be legalized by the Department of Justice.
- As a last step, the document must be sent to the following address to be apostilled:
Please ensure that the documents to be legalized have followed the correct process. The correct processes are explained on the website. Copies of documents cannot be legalized unless the correct process is followed. Only original public documents can be legalized.
