All civic applications must be made in person at the Embassy during consular office hours only. Applications will not be accepted by mail. Application forms are no longer published on the internet and can be completed in person at the Embassy.

Visa application can be made in person at the Embassy during consular hours only. Visa applicants are allowed to make use of travel agencies or third parties, provided that permission is granted by the applicant to do so. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Applications are processed and issued in 10–15 working days

  • Applicants will be informed by call or email when their documents are ready for collection
  • Enquiries on a visa in progress can only be made by the applicant (or parents in the case of minor). Information will only be given to the applicant (or agent if applicable)
  • Applications must be submitted in person, or through third parties provided that permission is granted by the applicant. Forms must be completed (not typed) and signed by the applicant himself/herself. The format of the forms may not be altered. Your passport or valid travel document must be valid for no less than 30 days after the expiry of your intended visit and have at least two unused pages for visa, entry/departure endorsements.
  • Applicants may be required to visit the Consular Section for an interview and/or to submit additional documentation to prove the bona fides of the visit over and above the basic requirements.
  • Any applicant allowed in the RSA due to misrepresentation or false declaration in the application form or an applicant who sojourns in the RSA in contravention of his/her permit conditions shall be guilty of an offence and liable for a conviction, fine or imprisonment as an illegal foreigner.
  • Visitor’s visas issued will be for a ‘single entry’, unless motivated why a multiple entry must be issued. It is also for a specific period (from date of entry) and contains an expiry date. OVERSTAYING YOUR VISA EXPIRY DATE WILL RESULT IN APPROPRIATE PENALTIES.
  • In accordance with the Immigration Act, 2002: Regulation 7(3), with effect from July 2005: No application may be accepted from an applicant on a short term visit in a country other than his/her country of origin/residence. Visa services at the Embassy can therefore only be rendered to Indonesian nationals and foreign/non-Indonesian nationals with long-term status in Indonesia; otherwise applications must be lodged at the country of origin.

INDONESIA: VISA EXEMPTIONS

  • Indonesian ordinary passport holders do require a visitor’s visa for holiday or business visits up to 90 days.
  • Indonesian holders of Diplomatic and Service passports are exempt from requiring visa.

PLEASE NOTE:

It is important to know that when you apply for a passport, whether in South Africa or overseas, you must apply in person because: 

  • The passport officer must be satisfied that your identity is legal and valid;
  • The passport officer must check that your photograph is a true image of yourself; and
  • Your fingerprints must be taken (for people who are aged 16 years or older) and checked against the National Population Register

 

Applications to replace lost, stolen or damaged passports will be double the normal fee if the incident was as a result of the passport / travel document owner’s negligence.

Applicants should note that in terms of Section 26(B) of the South African Citizenship Act, 1995, it is a punishable offence for a South African citizen of 18 years and older to leave or enter South African on a foreign passport.

 

REQUIREMENTS

1. PASSPORTS & RENEWALS

Regular Passport Requirements

  • BI-73 – Passport Application form; with signature and left thumb print;
  • BI-9 – Full set of fingerprints on DHA-9 form. This form is not downloadable. This form must be submitted by applicants 16 years old and above;
  • BI-529/ – Determination of citizenship;
  • Divorce decree. To be submitted by all divorced applicants;
  • Certified Marriage Certificate. To be submitted by married applicants irrespective of whether they will or will not change their surname;
  • Certified Copy of South African Passport;
  • Certified Copy of South African Identity Book or Birth certificate;
  • Certified Copy of Retention/Exemption Letter, for those who have dual citizenship;
  • If the passport to be replaced has been lost or stolen: Police Report to that effect (double tariff may apply);
  • Four (4) passport size photos (4cm x 4cm) Please note that colour photos which comply with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards for passports photo images are required for South African passport applications. [The holder's signature (persons 16 years old and above) is laser engraved into the passport. To ensure good quality scanned signature for laser engraving into the passport, the signature in the signature box on the passport application form should be in the middle of the box and must not touch the sides of the box. Please ensure your mouth is closed and that your teeth are not showing on the photo. Passport applications in which the photo and signature images do not meet quality standards will be rejected causing delays in the issuance of passports;

Maxi Passport

  • Maxi Passports are issued to applicants who are 16 years old and above. Maxi Passports are a 48- page tourist document meant for frequent travellers. They are the same as regular passports (valid for 10 years) except that they have extra pages to provide for more visa pages.
  • Requirements: Same requirements for regular passport may apply.

Child Passport Requirements

  • Form BI-73 passport application form, fully completed. Consent must be given by both parents;
    • Minor born within wedlock, parents still married: Written consent by both parents,
    • Minor born within wedlock, parents divorced, no parent has sole guardianship: Written consent by both parents,
    • Minor born within wedlock, parents divorced, one parent has sole guardianship: Written consent by only the parent with sole guardianship. Judge’s order stating that he/she has the sole guardianship must be produced,
    • Minor born within wedlock, one parent deceased: Written consent by the surviving parent. Death certificate of the deceased parent must be produced,
    • Minor born within wedlock, both parents deceased: Written consent by legal guardian,
    • Minor born out of wedlock: Only the mother’s written consent is required, unless a competent court directs otherwise. The fact that the biological father has acknowledged paternity and/or that the child is registered under his surname, does not change the aforesaid. Only where a court has granted him joint custody will his consent be also be mandatory. Note: If the mother is a minor herself, her guardian must consent to the passport,
    • Minor in foster care under the provisions of the Child Care Act, 1983: The Minister of Welfare must consider such cases, and his consent must be on the Department of Welfare’s official letterhead,
  • Cases where the prescribed consent cannot be obtained: Regulation 3(3)(j)(ii): Excluding Category “g” cases, a Commissioner of Child Welfare may consider granting consent to the issuing of the passport. The relevant court ruling must accompany the application in such cases.

BI-529 – Determination of citizenship;

  • Four (4) passport size photos (4cm x 4cm) Please note that colour photos which comply with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards for passports photo images are required for South African passport applications. Please ensure your mouth is closed and that your teeth are not showing on the photo. Passport applications in which the photo and signature images do not meet quality standards will be rejected causing delays in the issuance of passports;
  • Certified Copy of South African Birth Certificate;
  • Certified Copy of South African Passport (if not first application);
  • If the passport to be replaced has been lost or stolen: Police Report to that effect (double tariff may apply).

Emergency Travel Certificates & Requirements

  • Emergency Travel Certificates are issued to South Africans who have to travel urgently for reasons of death, sickness or other emergency. The emergency travel certificate is valid for a maximum period of 3 months but only for a single trip back to South Africa.
  • BI-73 – Passport Application form; with signature and left thumb print;

  • BI-529/ – Determination of citizenship. This form must be completed by applicants who are 16 years old and above;

  • Written motivation for the issuing of the Emergency Travel Certificate, along with any proof of the urgency of the trip (e.g. confirmation of funeral arrangements, doctor’s letter confirming sickness, air ticket etc)
  • If the passport to be replaced has been lost or stolen: Police Report to that effect.
  • Four (4) passport size photos (4cm x 4cm) Please note that colour photos which comply with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards for passports photo images are required for South African passport applications. Please ensure your mouth is closed and that your teeth are not showing on the photo.

2. LETTER OF NON-IMPEDIMENT (CONFIRMATION OF MARITAL STATUS)

Letters of non-impediment i.e. confirmation of marital status are issued upon request to persons who are South African citizens and who require such a letter for the purpose of getting married.

Before submitting an application, applicants should first verify that their marital status at the Department of Home Affairs is indeed correct by sending an email to the Contact Centre at hacc@dha.gov.za.

Mission

A letter from the applicant requesting the issuance of a letter of non-impediment.

  • The signed and dated letter should be addressed to the Director-General of Department of Home Affairs and include:
  • The applicant’s full names and identity number
  • The reason for the request i.e. to get married abroad/ in Indonesia.
  • A request for the issued letter on non-impediment to be certified with an apostille in terms of the 1961 Hague Convention and please check if this is required by Indonesian authorities
  • The applicant’s contact details (residential address, mobile phone number and email address

The applicant’s original South African passport

  • A photocopy of the passport page with the applicant’s biometric data / photograph must also be submitted.
  • The original document will be given back to the applicant

  • The original document will be given back to the applicant

Proof of payment of the application fee

  • Payment of the application fee must be made through an electronic bank transfer @IDR54.000
  • A copy of the transfer/deposit slip must be submitted as proof of payment.
  • Payment must be made at least five (5) working days before submitted the application.
  • Payment of the application fee may not be made in cash at the Embassy.

 

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Applications submitted at the Embassy in Jakarta are sent free of charge to the Department of Home Affairs in Pretoria, where applications are finalized and new documents issued, with the diplomatic freight once a month. In the case of urgent applications, applicants may normally opt to organise, and pay for, a courier service to collect their applications from our office and have it delivered directly to the Department in Pretoria.
  • After the application has been sent to the Department of Home Affairs in Pretoria, it may take up to 6 months for the application to be finalised and the newly issued document to reach the office of application / South African mission abroad. Status / progress are not provided to applicants by the Mission during the above-mentioned processing period; applicants may however contact the Department of Home Affairs Contact Centre themselves about their application status: hacc@dha.gov.za.
  • As soon as the newly issued document reaches the office of application / South African mission abroad, the applicant would be duly notified. Due to the long-term nature of applications / processing period; applicants are kindly requested to keep our office informed of any change of address during the processing period via email address: jakarta.consular@dirco.gov.za.
  • The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (formerly, Department of Foreign Affairs) offers a voluntary registration service for South African citizens that are travelling or residing abroad.  This service is provided in the event there is a need to contact you to offer urgent advice on a natural disaster or civil unrest for a family emergency.  Information may be submitted by a South African citizen via the ROSA Online Registration form.

NB:  For a faster process, you may also opt to ask family members to do it for you in South Africa by giving consent letter.
