All civic applications must be made in person at the Embassy during consular office hours only. Applications will not be accepted by mail. Application forms are no longer published on the internet and can be completed in person at the Embassy.
Visa application can be made in person at the Embassy during consular hours only. Visa applicants are allowed to make use of travel agencies or third parties, provided that permission is granted by the applicant to do so. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

PLEASE NOTE:

- Enquiries on a visa in progress can only be made by the applicant (or parents in the case of minor). Information will only be given to the applicant (or agent if applicable)
- Applications must be submitted in person, or through third parties provided that permission is granted by the applicant. Forms must be completed (not typed) and signed by the applicant himself/herself. The format of the forms may not be altered. Your passport or valid travel document must be valid for no less than 30 days after the expiry of your intended visit and have at least two unused pages for visa, entry/departure endorsements.
- Applicants may be required to visit the Consular Section for an interview and/or to submit additional documentation to prove the bona fides of the visit over and above the basic requirements.
- Any applicant allowed in the RSA due to misrepresentation or false declaration in the application form or an applicant who sojourns in the RSA in contravention of his/her permit conditions shall be guilty of an offence and liable for a conviction, fine or imprisonment as an illegal foreigner.
- Visitor’s visas issued will be for a ‘single entry’, unless motivated why a multiple entry must be issued. It is also for a specific period (from date of entry) and contains an expiry date. OVERSTAYING YOUR VISA EXPIRY DATE WILL RESULT IN APPROPRIATE PENALTIES.
- In accordance with the Immigration Act, 2002: Regulation 7(3), with effect from July 2005: No application may be accepted from an applicant on a short term visit in a country other than his/her country of origin/residence. Visa services at the Embassy can therefore only be rendered to Indonesian nationals and foreign/non-Indonesian nationals with long-term status in Indonesia; otherwise applications must be lodged at the country of origin.
INDONESIA: VISA EXEMPTIONS
- Indonesian ordinary passport holders do require a visitor’s visa for holiday or business visits up to 90 days.
- Indonesian holders of Diplomatic and Service passports are exempt from requiring visa.

PLEASE NOTE:
It is important to know that when you apply for a passport, whether in South Africa or overseas, you must apply in person because:
- The passport officer must be satisfied that your identity is legal and valid;
- The passport officer must check that your photograph is a true image of yourself; and
- Your fingerprints must be taken (for people who are aged 16 years or older) and checked against the National Population Register
Applications to replace lost, stolen or damaged passports will be double the normal fee if the incident was as a result of the passport / travel document owner’s negligence.
Applicants should note that in terms of Section 26(B) of the South African Citizenship Act, 1995, it is a punishable offence for a South African citizen of 18 years and older to leave or enter South African on a foreign passport.
REQUIREMENTS
TRAVEL DOCUMENTS – Passports & Emergency Travel Certificate
Please note that the issuance of Temporary Passports was discontinued effective 01 September 2014.
1) Ordinary Passport Applications
Ordinary South African Passports are issued by the Department of Home Affairs in South Africa to applicants who are 16 years and older. Ordinary Passports are valid for 10 years and is not renewable. South African citizens may apply for a passport if the current passport is about to expire, is almost full, has been damaged, lost or stolen or if the applicant’s forename and or surname has been amended. When the passport expires an application for the issuance of a new passport must be submitted.
An Ordinary Tourist Passport contains 32 pages but frequent travellers can opt to get a maxi tourist passport with 48 pages.

Passport applications for applicants aged 16 and older & Maxi Passport Applications
Requirements:
- DHA-73: Passport Application form (completed in black ink)
- DHA-9: Full set of fingerprints form (completed in black ink)
- DHA-529: Determination of Citizenship (completed in black ink)
- Current passport
- South African Identity Document or Birth Certificate
- Four (4) passport size photos (4cm X 4cm)
- Applicants submitting photos that do not meet these requirements run the risk of the application being rejected by the Department of Home Affairs.
- Payment of prescribed fee – Ordinary Passports: Rp1,036.000.00; Maxi Passports: Rp2,072.000
Additional documentation to be submitted if applicable:
- Marriage / Civil Partnership certificate. To be submitted by married applicants irrespective of whether you will change your surname or not.
- Copy of divorce decree
- Written request to change surname. To be submitted by married applicants who would like to:
- retain their maiden surnames; or
- wish to use double-barrel surnames.
- Holders of foreign citizenship must provide proof of such citizenship by either:
- A registration certificate or letter from the relevant authorities to confirm how and when citizenship was acquired;
- Naturalization: Original copy of the naturalization certificate AND Letter of Retention of South African Citizenship
- DHA-335: Report of Loss of Travel Document and Police report for lost or stolen passports (double tariff may apply)
2) Child passport applications for applicants under the age of 16
Child passports are issued to children who are fifteen years of age and below. Child passports are valid for five (5) years and is not renewable. When the passport expires an application for the issuance of a new passport must be submitted. Children should be present during application for identification purposes.
- DHA-73: Passport Application form (consent of both parents required) (completed in black ink)
- Minor born within wedlock, parents still married: Written consent by both parents,
- Minor born within wedlock, parents divorced, no parent has sole guardianship: Written consent by both parents,
- Minor born within wedlock, parents divorced, one parent has sole guardianship: Written consent by only the parent with sole guardianship. Judge’s order stating that he/she has the sole guardianship must be produced,
- Minor born within wedlock, one parent deceased: Written consent by the surviving parent. Death certificate of the deceased parent must be produced,
- Minor born within wedlock, both parents deceased: Written consent by legal guardian,
- Minor born out of wedlock: Only the mother’s written consent is required, unless a competent court directs otherwise. The fact that the biological father has acknowledged paternity and/or that the child is registered under his surname, does not change the aforesaid. Only where a court has granted him joint custody will his consent also be mandatory. Note: If the mother is a minor herself, her guardian must consent to the passport,
- Minor in foster care under the provisions of the Childcare Act, 1983: The Minister of Welfare must consider such cases, and his consent must be on the Department of Welfare’s official letterhead,
- Cases where the prescribed consent cannot be obtained: Regulation 3(3)(j)(ii): Excluding Category “g” cases, a Commissioner of Child Welfare may consider granting consent to the issuing of the passport. The relevant court ruling must accompany the application in such cases.

- In case of divorced parents, consent of both parents are required unless Sole Custody has been awarded to one parent in which case the court order to this effect must be submitted.

- Holders of foreign citizenship must provide proof of such citizenship by either:
- A registration certificate or letter from the relevant authorities to confirm how and when citizenship was acquired;

3) Emergency Travel Certificates
The Department of Home Affairs has discontinued the issuance of Temporary Passports since 01 September 2014 as citizens travelling abroad are refused entry into several countries when travelling on Temporary Passports. Only an Emergency Travel Certificates (ETC) will be issued to an applicant under circumstances of emergency travel purposes (e.g. if passport is lost while abroad, death in the family etc). Applicant to provide proof of emergency. ETCs are issued in a handwritten page form and is valid for a single travel to return to South Africa.
ETCs can only be issued to applicants travelling to South Africa on emergency cases.

2. LETTER OF NON-IMPEDIMENT (CONFIRMATION OF MARITAL STATUS)
Letters of non-impediment i.e. confirmation of marital status are issued upon request to persons who are South African citizens and who require such a letter for the purpose of getting married.
Before submitting an application, applicants should first verify that their marital status at the Department of Home Affairs is indeed correct by sending an email to the Contact Centre at hacc@dha.gov.za.

PLEASE NOTE:
- Applications submitted at the Embassy in Jakarta are sent free of charge to the Department of Home Affairs in Pretoria, where applications are finalized and new documents issued, with the diplomatic freight once a month. In the case of urgent applications, applicants may normally opt to organise, and pay for, a courier service to collect their applications from our office and have it delivered directly to the Department in Pretoria.
- After the application has been sent to the Department of Home Affairs in Pretoria, it may take up to 6 months for the application to be finalised and the newly issued document to reach the office of application / South African mission abroad. Status / progress are not provided to applicants by the Mission during the above-mentioned processing period; applicants may however contact the Department of Home Affairs Contact Centre themselves about their application status: hacc@dha.gov.za.
- As soon as the newly issued document reaches the office of application / South African mission abroad, the applicant would be duly notified. Due to the long-term nature of applications / processing period; applicants are kindly requested to keep our office informed of any change of address during the processing period via email address: jakarta.consular@dirco.gov.za.
- The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (formerly, Department of Foreign Affairs) offers a voluntary registration service for South African citizens that are travelling or residing abroad. This service is provided in the event there is a need to contact you to offer urgent advice on a natural disaster or civil unrest for a family emergency. Information may be submitted by a South African citizen via the ROSA Online Registration form.
NB: For a faster process, you may also opt to ask family members to do it for you in South Africa by giving consent letter.
