The Consular Section of the South African Embassy in Spain renders Immigration and Civic services to South African citizens, Spanish and also to foreigners living in Spain.
CIVIC SERVICES
• Passports
• Identity Documents
• Birth Certificate
• Marriage Certificate
• Death Certificate
• Certificate of No impediment or Marital status
• Name change application
• Renunciation or retention of citizenship
Kindly be advised that the above are issued by Home Affairs and therefore processing time can take up to 3 months for Certificates and up to 8 months for Passports.
For or passport and ID document applications, the applicant is required to come in person. Requests can be made to: madrid.dha@dirco.gov.za for an appointment and respective forms. Appointments for travel should be made three months prior to travel.
Emergency Travel Certificates can be issued up to a day prior to departure. The applicant is required to come in person.
Police Clearance
Please note that the South African Embassy in Spain does not have a mandate from the South African Police to issue Police Clearance Certificate. The Embassy assists with taking of fingerprints and also has an instruction leaflet on the procedure to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate (click here to access form).

Travelling to South Africa
Spanish passport holders please take note that 90 days free travel with multiple entries into South Africa will be calculated from the first day of travel. There is no restriction on the times to re-enter during this period. The traveler will not get 90 days every time he or she enters. He or she will only be admitted for the days calculated from the first day of entry as the remainder of the original 90 days.

Minors
A minor is allowed to travel to South Africa provided an unabridged Birth Certificate is produced at the port of entry. Children of South Africa Passport holders should be registered upon arrival.
