Foreign nationals with long-term status in Malaysia may apply at the S.A High Commission in Malaysia.
Applications may be submitted in person or by a third party, authorised in writing, to do so. Application forms must be completed (not typed) and signed by the applicant himself/herself. The format of the forms may not be altered. Your passport or valid travel document must be valid for no less than 30 days after the expiry of your intended visit and have at least two unused pages for visa, entry/departure endorsements.
Applicants may be required to visit the Consular Section for an interview and/or submit additional documentation to prove the bona fides of the visit over and above the basic requirements.
Any applicant allowed in the RSA due to misrepresentation or false declaration in the application form or an applicant who sojourns in the RSA in contravention of his/her permit conditions shall be guilty of an offence and liable for a conviction, fine or imprisonment as an illegal foreigner.
PASSPORT HOLDERS WHO ARE EXEMPT FROM VISAS FOR SOUTH AFRICA

N.B Malaysian Passport Holders do not require visitor’s visas for visits of business or holiday up to 30 days. Please ensure that you have at least two unused pages in your passport.
VISA INFORMATION
Foreigners subject to South African visa control must be in possession of valid and acceptable passports/travel documents and visas. Visas are not issued at South African ports of entry and must be obtained at the South African Missions abroad prior to travel. If you arrive without a visa, immigration officials are obliged to put you onto a flight back to your home country.
Visitor’s visas issued will be for a ‘single entry’, unless motivated why a multiple entry must be issued. It is also for a specific period (from date of entry) and contains an expiry date.
Visitors’ visas are for international travellers (citizens of other countries) who have permanent residence outside South Africa and who wish to visit the Republic of South Africa on a temporary basis for holiday (tourism), business or transit purposes for a period of 90 days or less.

- children to join parents who are in South Africa on work or study permits

Visa processing takes at least 5-10 full working days and may take longer if referred to country of origin. Only complete applications are processed. The onus is on the applicant to apply in time.
Only in emergency cases (death or medical - with proof of the urgent situation) may the processing period be shorter. No other requests will be considered.
Foreign nationals, who require Visas for longer periods (e.g. one year), must apply in their country of origin.
REQUIREMENTS FOR SA VISITOR’S VISA (HOLIDAY OR BUSINESS) OR TRANSIT VISA:
Basic requirements:
- Application form for Visa (BI-84) (Forms completed in English and in black ink).
- Two (2) identical recent colour passport photos.
- Passport valid for no less than 30 days after the expiry of intended visit, with two (2) unused pages.
- Confirmation of long term residence status (PR Card /Employment Pass/ Work permit, etc.) and employment in Malaysia.
- Payment of the prescribed fee paid in cash, if applicable.
- Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, (if travelling to or from a Yellow Fever Zone). See link below.
- Proof of onward air/sea transport ticket or road transport.
- Proof of admissibility (visa) in the foreign country of onward ticket.
- Confirmation of accommodation at a hotel or guest house in SA for all dates.
- If visiting a friend in South Africa, provide a signed invitation letter from the SA hosts. It should include the full name, SA ID number, full address, contact number, email and certified copies of host’s ID or passport and permit (non-SA). The person must also confirm if he/she is responsible for your accommodation, meals, transport and if needed, repatriation costs.
- For minors: birth certificate and letter of consent if not accompanied by parents.
- A refundable repatriation deposit of S$ 3000.00 may be required.
- Proof of financial means: to pay for your living expenses while in South Africa in the form of:
- Bank statements (original pages for the last 3 months)
- Undertakings by the host(s) in South Africa (mentioned in his/her letter)
- Undertaking by Malaysian company to pay all your expenses
- Bursary
- Medical cover or
- Travellers’ cheques
Holiday
Please provide the following, in addition to the above requirements:
- Signed original letter from employer in Malaysia reflecting salary, position in company and leave granted for the period of visit or reason for travel.
- Confirmation letter of tour or booked holiday itinerary.
Business (including Conferences).
Please provide the following, in addition to the above requirements:
- Signed original letter from employer in Malaysia confirming employment, position in company, reason for travel, duration of visit and if they are financially responsible for you. Please also indicate other possible visits to South Africa in the next 3 months (90 days).
- Letter from the registered company in South Africa that you are visiting, duration of visit, reason for the visit and/or letter of confirmation/participation at a Conference. The company registration number and full contact details (telephone numbers, email, street address, etc.) must be in the letter.
Transit Visa
All foreigners from non-visa exempt countries, travelling en-route South Africa to neighbouring countries (Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Mozambique) will require a transit visa.
- Please submit a BI-84 application form with all the relevant requirements similar to the Visitor’s Visa above.
- The processing time for a transit visa is at least 5 full working days.
Passport holders, who transit a South African port of entry en-route to any other country, may do so without the need to apply for a transit visa.

Application for a Visa BI-84 the temporary residence permit form (BI-1738) is for guidance only and printed forms will not be accepted. Please visit the SAHC Consular Section during consular hours to obtain an ORIGINAL APPLICATION FORM. The employer’s company in SA may complete ’Part P’ (pages 9-11) and fax/email scanned copies to the consular section.
