NABA BUSINESS MISSION TO SOUTH AFRICA

The South African Embassy in Oslo is collaborating closely with NABA to make this a successful business mission with more South African-Norwegian partnerships, is planning a business mission to South Africa in relation to Mining Indaba in Cape Town February 3-6.

The Business Mission aims to engage companies from a range of sectors:

  • Energy
  • Infrastructure
  • Logistics
  • Services
  • Tourism
  • Technology

The South African Embassy in Oslo is collaborating closely with NABA to make this a successful business mission with more South African-Norwegian partnerships.

 

GRAND JOINT CELEBRATION OF SA HERITAGE- & WOMEN’S DAY

Ambassador Ramokgopa hosted a celebration of Women & SA Heritage on 26 September 2018 at the SA Embassy in Oslo.

The event consisted of speeches, a musical performance, fashion show and food feast, to commemorate and celebrate the utterly important joint celebration of Heritage & Women’s Day, with a special emphasis on one of the fearless champions of democracy and human rights; Ms Albertina Sisulu, a woman of fortitude.

 

MANDELA DAY IN OSLO

The Oslo Mission started the day in true Mandela’s spirit by volunteering at the Salvation Army´s Lighthouse in the Norwegian capital. The Lighthouse is a safe haven and sanctuary for the city’s homeless and drug addicts where a roof over the head, food, clothes and compassion are being provided by an idealistic staff on a daily basis.
In the afternoon, Ambassador Ramokgopa, and 1st Secretary Political, Ms Medupe, went to the neighbouring municipality of Bærum to witness a carillonist performance; Five South African songs were played from the church tower to honour the late and great Mandela in conjunction with his centenary.

In the evening the Oslo Mission hosted the screening and Norwegian premiere of the film Unconditional, the story about South Africa and Norway solidarity a film by South African-Norwegian couple, Natalie and Mikkel Becker-Aakervik, of Thought Leader Global.

The chancery was filled to the brim with an array of guests, ranging from diplomats, church representatives and NGOs (several attendees were portrayed in the documentary) for an evening which turned into a proper feast for the eyes, ears and taste buds.

FREEDOM DAY CELEBRATIONS 2018
Happy National Day: The transferred officials of the Oslo Mission.
Ambassadors unite: Ambassador Ramokgopa together with her counterparts.
The successful event gathered 100+ guests, including the majority of Oslo-stationed Ambassadors, Foreign Ministry officials, Ministry of Education representatives, business contacts and friends of SA, celebrating 24 years of freedom and the centenary of Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu.

GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING STUDENTS VISIT THE OSLO MISSION

01 February 2018: Ambassador Selaelo Ramokgopa together with the head teacher and the class of 2018. Students at Holtekilen Boarding School (aged 16-19+) may choose the study path of Global Understanding, where they can elect South Africa as their area of specialisation. Students choosing the SA-route learn about South African history and culture and will eventually undertake a 6-week internship at a school in Mamelodi, outside Pretoria.

Out of country registration

14 March 2018

Registration out of country will take place at all Embassies, Consulates-General and High Commissions as designated on the DIRCO website.

Citizens can check whether they are registered on the voters’ roll via the website of the Electoral Commission (EC) at www.elections.org.za.

If registered inside South Africa then it is not necessary to register again abroad.

In order to be eligible to vote abroad, the voter will have to inform the Chief Electoral Officer via the completion of an online VEC10 of their intention to vote outside of the country. The online VEC10 will only be available on the website at www.elections.org.za from the date that the NPE2019 election is proclaimed, for a 15 day period.

Requirement for Registration

A comprehensive registration manual outlining out of country registration procedures which includes all the required forms will be made available. DIRCO staff will assist voters with the following and forward the documentation for processing.

In short, the following are needed for the voter to register abroad:

  • An ID document or Smart ID card or Valid Temporary ID Certificate (TIC)
  • A valid passport.
  • Apply to register in person at an Embassy, Consulate-General or High Commission
  • Applicant to complete a REC1/OC form.

Role of the missions abroad:

  • DIRCO staff to photocopy page 1 of the ID document/Smart ID Card.
  • Once completed, the REC1 /OC must be scanned together with the copy of the ID.
  • Scanned copies of the REC1/OC and ID copy must be emailed to
  • registrationoc@elections.org.za and also couriered (see note below in red) to the Electoral Commission at:

The period for registration abroad/out of country is open until the proclamation of the NPE 2019 election. There may be a registration weekend that will be announced for South African citizens abroad.

Please note that the original REC1/OC and copy of ID must be kept at the mission for safekeeping until couriers have been appointed by the Electoral Commission.

On the REC1/OC form, bottom left corner, mission transferred staff member must check the passport for validity and check the box; check the form for completeness (quality assure) with signature and provide official’s ID number.

It is not necessary to complete the Voting District at the bottom right of the form.

Complete the date of registration on the bottom right of the form.

The Expos gathered approximately 50 000 visitors.

NABA SUMMIT 2016

NABA 2016: AMBASSADOR ZONDO AND 1ST SECRETARY MEPHA PICTURED DURING THE SPEED-MEETING SESSION

The Norwegian-African Business Association (NABA) hosted the leading Nordic-African business summit in Oslo for the 6th year in a row. On October 13, 38 speakers and around 400 African and Nordic business delegates and participants, including more than 20 ambassadors from African and Nordic countries discussed how best to invest in the rapidly growing cities in Africa. Welcoming remarks were given by Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Børge Brende and plenary sessions and panel debates included key speakers such as former President of SA, Mr. Thabo Mbeki, who focused his speech on the African State of Affairs and what it means for the future development of the continent.

MINISTER MASUTHA IN OSLO IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE WORLD CONGRESS AGAINST DEATH PENALTY

SUCCESSFUL AFRICA DAY CELEBRATIONS IN THE NORWEGIAN CAPITAL
The Oslo Mission co-hosted the Africa Day celebrations together with its African
counterparts at the Center for African Culture in central Oslo. The sunny afternoon was filled with speeches, musical entertainment and stands where the different African embassies displayed some of their mantelpieces, promotional material and culinary treats. Attendees included Ambassadors from the African embassies in Oslo, State Secretary Tone Skogen (Conservatives) members of the diplomatic corps, business contacts as well as friends of Africa.

SUCCESSFUL PROMOTION OF SOUTH AFRICA
 
The Oslo Mission participated in the annual Oslo Travel Expo 15-17 January 2016, which gathered 600 travel exhibitors and approximately 40 000 visitors over the time span of a weekend in Norway’s snow-drenched capital.

Oslo Travel Expo – Telenor Arena has become one of the most popular and important international meeting place for the travel industry worldwide, and it is hence the ideal platform for promoting South Africa to a large and travel eager Scandinavian audience.

On 13 – 14 February 2016 the Oslo Mission continued their tourism promo trail, this weekend to the seaside city of Sandefjord.

Women’s Day  2015: On 21 August, the Oslo Mission-in collaboration with the creative meeting point; Oslo Trend, Celebrated Women’s Day in a grand manner. Close to 300 attendees witnessed a panel discussion focusing on women’s rights, a fashion show displaying beautiful SA jewellery from The Legacy Collection and AoE sustainable clothing brand, as well as an installation piece of a life size representation of Nelson Mandela’s cell on Robben Island made from the original prison fencing. The guests also enjoyed a feast for the taste buds, in terms of South African wine tasting alongside delicious finger food. Various stands graced the Mission premises, displaying SA beadworks and artefacts (Zulufadder), SA travel material and Panthera Africa, which is a non-profit sanctuary where rescued big cats are protected.

Mandela Day 2015: The Oslo Mission, with Ambassador Zondo at the forefront, worked alongside the regular employees at the Lighthouse on Friday 17 July; preparing and serving of food as well as assisting with the cleaning, gardening, general maintenance and conversing with the users of the facility.
