Assistance to South African citizens abroad viz. (Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, Article 5):
Encourage registration of all SA citizens abroad – through ROSA (Register of South Africans Abroad).
Provide non-financial assistance to distressed South African citizens.
Assist with non-financial arrangements to the next of kin of the deceased for the repatriation of the mortal remains of deceased citizen back South Africa.
Aid and support detained South African citizens, determine validity of charges, attend court hearings, make regular prison visits, establish communication line to families in South Africa through DIRCO and to ensure that all South African citizens are treated in a humane way.
Assist South African citizens with non-financial assistance to find shelter if required and within the regulations of the host country.
Provide the following services for South African citizens:
- Certifying True Copies of Original South African Documents for Use in South Africa
- Serving as Commissioner of Oath
- Handling of estates and wills
- Civil judgements
- Fingerprint services
- Power of Attorney Affidavits
- Declarations
- Service of process
