Voting at the South African Embassy, 17 May 2024

Please be informed that South African citizens residing in Egypt can cast their vote in the 2024 National Elections at the Embassy in Cairo on 17 May 2024 from 07h00 - 19h00.

The South African ID book or ID Card is required to cast your vote.

Closure of the South African Embassy in Cairo

Please be informed the Embassy will be closed for public holidays on 2, 5 and 6 May 2024.

Services will resume on 7 May 2024.

Cape2Cairo Guiness World Record Running Attempt

Mr Keith Boyd, a 57-year-old South African, who is the founder of Rainbowrunnersza, a nonprofit organisation; arrived in Cairo on Sunday 21 April 2024, after running from Cape Town through Africa to Cairo. Mr Boyd has to date completed 270 days of his record attempt breaking run. Mr Boyd intends to complete the run under the current record of 318 days.

 

Mr Boyd was welcomed in Cairo by his family, members of his team and the South African Embassy.

10th South Africa-Egypt Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC)

The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr Naledi Pandor, co-chaired the 10th Session of the Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) with her counterpart, Mr Sameh Shoukry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, on 19 April 2024. The JCC discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international global events.

The Ambassador of South Africa to Egypt, HE Mr Ntsiki Mashimbye and Ambassador of Egypt to South Africa, HE Mr Ahmed El Fadly, were in attendance, in addition to senior officials from both sides.

   

Meeting with His Holiness Pope Tawadros II of the Coptic Church, 20 March 2024

Ambassador NJ Mashimbye had earlier this afternoon had the privilege of meeting with His Holiness Pope Tawadros II at the historic Egyptian Coptic Orthodox Church.

The meeting served as an opportunity to extend heartfelt condolences and solidarity following the tragic passing of three Egyptian Coptic monks within a Coptic monastery in South Africa.

South Africa participates at the Nations Cup Golf Tournament

A South African golf team, led by Ambassador Ntsiki Mashimbye, participated at the Nations Cup golf competition held on 2 March 2024, at the Kattameya Dunes Golf Course. The South African team finished in fourth place.

 

South Africa’s Human Rights Month

South Africa commemorates Human Rights Month in March of each year. In 2024 the theme, “Three Decades of Respect for and Promotion of Human Rights”, refers to South Africa’s 30 years celebration of Freedom in April and the first democratic elections held in 1994 after the end of Apartheid as well as its defence of and promotion of human rights and humanitarian law. In this month, South Africans honours and remembers those who fought for liberation and reinforces the commitment to the Bill of Rights in South Africa’s Constitution.

   

PRESIDENT RAMAPHOSA ANNOUNCES 2024 GENERAL ELECTIONS DATE

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has in accordance with section 49(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, read with section 17 of the Electoral act of 1998, determined 29 May 2024, as the date for the 2024 General National and Provincial elections.  The President has also in line with section 17(2) of the Electoral act 73 of 1998, consulted with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on the election date and convened a meeting with all 9 Provincial Premiers and the IEC to discuss the state of readiness for the General elections.

The 2024 elections coincide with South Africa's celebration of 30 years of freedom and democracy. Therefore, President Ramaphosa calls on all eligible voters to fully participate in this important and historic milestone of South Africa’s democracy.

GIBS delegation visit to Egypt

The Gordon Institute of Business Science and the W&R SETA (Wholesale and Retail) visited Egypt from 10-17 February 2024. The delegation is led by the W&R SETA CEO, Mr Tom Mkhwanazi and the GIBS Faculty Lead, Mr Tony Christodoulou. The delegation met with Ambassador Mashimbye during their visit. Arab Parliament plans to honour South African President for support of Palestinian cause

The President of the Arab Parliament HE Mr Adel bin AbdulRahman Al Asoomi, met with HE Mr Ntsiki Mashimbye, Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to Egypt. During the meeting, Mr Al Asoomi praised the historical and brave position of the Republic of South Africa filing a lawsuit before the International Court of Justice against the Israeli occupation entity to investigate crimes of genocide against the Palestinian people and expressed thanks to the leadership and Government of South Africa for taking this honourable stance.

The Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies is visiting Egypt to attend the ITU Global Symposium for Regulators 2023. Tabarak Construction (Egypt) and Tefla Group (South Africa) sign a joint venture deal
