He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology (Business Administration), a Post Graduate Diploma in Public and Development Management and a National Diploma in Management, obtained from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). He is currently reading towards his Masters in Management at the University of Witwatersrand.
He worked full time for the African National Congress (Northern Cape), as Provincial Head of Policy, Research and Analysis for 10 years from 1999 to 2009.
He served as ANC Youth League Provincial Treasurer, Provincial Chairperson and on the National Executive Committee from 2003-2009. He also served in the ANC Provincial Executive Committee, and as the Deputy Provincial Secretary from 2003 to 2017.
He was a Member of Northern Cape Provincial Legislature (MPL) from 2009 to 2018. During this period he was also appointed as a Member of the Executive Council (MEC) in the Northern Cape Provincial Cabinet and served in the following capacities:
- MEC for Social Development from April 2009 to June 2013
- MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) from June 2013 to February 2018.
In February 2018 he became a Member of the National Assembly (MP) and served as a Member of the Portfolio Committees on Basic Education, Water and Sanitation (alternate) and Sports and Recreation.
In December 2017, he was elected as an ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) and serves on the following NEC Sub-Committees namely: Information and Communications; National Dispute and Resolutions Committee, Social Transformation and International Relations.
In May 2019 he was appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa as the Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation.
