International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC)

HISTORY AN PRESENT STATUS

ICAC is an international, intergovernmental organization of countries with an interest in the commodity cotton. The aims of ICAC are: to monitor developments affecting the world cotton situation; disseminate statistics on world cotton production, trade, consumption, stocks and prices; advise member states of measures considered suitable and practicable for the furtherance of international collaboration, with due regard to maintaining and developing a sound world cotton economy.

South Africa is a member of ICAC. In 1996 ICAC approached South Africa to look into the possibility to move its Head quarters from the USA to South Africa. A decision against this was taken since the USA did not withdraw from ICAC and it was felt that South Africa is too far removed from the cotton markets.
