History of Relations

South Africa and Benin established formal diplomatic relations on 19 May 1994. Benin opened its Embassy in Pretoria in January 1999. Ambassador HE Jean-Pierre A Edon presented his credentials on 24 January 2001.

Health Requirements

A valid international health certificate proving vaccination against yellow fever only is required. Vaccination against hepatitis A and B, tetanus and polio is recommended. There is also a high malaria risk.

Climate Info

In the south: four seasons. Long rainy season April to July. Short dry season August to September. Short rainy season October to November. Long dry season December to March.

In the north: Dry season November to early May. Rainy season May to October.
