History of Relations

South Africa and Kazakhstan established full diplomatic relations on 5 March 1992. The resident South African Embassy was first established in December 2003 in Almaty; but in 2008, the Embassy relocated to Astana; there after it relocated to Nur-Sultan in 2019. In December 2013, Kazakhstan opened a residential Embassy in Pretoria.

How does one reach Kazakhstan?

The flag carrier is Air Astana which flies, inter alia, to Almaty, Astana, Abu Dhabi, Moscow, Delhi, Beijing, Istanbul, Bangkok, Hannover, London, Amsterdam, Baku, Kuala Lumpur, Frankfurt, Seoul, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hong Kong.

Etihad Airways also services Almaty and Astana from Abu Dhabi.   Other airlines include Lufthansa, British Airways and Aeroflot.
