History of Relations

South Africa was one of the first countries to recognise the newly independent Lithuania along with the other Baltic States on 28 August 1991. Diplomatic relations were established later that year. The SA Ambassador based in Sweden is accredited to Lithuania on a non-residential basis.

Lithuania increased its presence in South Africa by opening Embassy in Pretoria in 2015.

Travel Info

Visa requirements for South Africans

Lithuania joined border-free Schengen Area on 21st Dec 2007. All the short stay visas issued by the Lithuanian Embassy entitles its holder to travel throughout the 26 Schengen States for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
