History of Relations
The Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Maldives issued a Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations on 27 July 1994, thereby formally establishing diplomatic relations. In the absence of residential diplomatic missions on each other's territory, bilateral relations are conducted through the South African High Commission in Colombo, Sri Lanka on a non-residential basis. South Africa has an Honorary Consulate in Maldives and Maldives is in the process of establishing an Honorary Consulate in Durban.

Visa Requirements for South Africans
To enter Maldives no pre-arrival visa is required. A thirty day free visa is issued on arrival for all Nationalities, provided the following conditions are met: 1) Should possess a valid passport; 2) Have a valid ticket to continue the journey out of Maldives; 3) Have enough funds to cover the expenses for duration of the stay in Maldives. (US$100 + $50 dollars per day) or a confirmation of reservation in a Tourist Resort or a Hotel.

Health Requirements
The health requirements for visitors to the Maldives are minimal. Foremost health requirement is a valid Cholera and Yellow Fever vaccination certificate if you have recently visited or come from a country where the diseases are endemic. Some precautions against mosquito bites are advisable.

Climate Info
Maldives
has a tropical climate, with two monsoons. The rainy south-west monsoon starts
during April and lasts until October, while the generally less rainy north-east
monsoon occurs from December to March. The average temperature for Maldives ranges
from 25.7 degrees C to 30.7 degrees C.
