History of Relations

Established in 1992, diplomatic relations between South Africa and Seychelles remain cordial. Relations between the two countries are guided by the General Cooperation Agreement (GCA) signed on 30 January 2007. The Senior Officials Meeting was escalated to a Joint Commission of Cooperation at Deputy Minister Level in March 2018 and was held in Pretoria. A follow-up meeting, the Mid-Term Review by Senior Officials was held in July 2019 in Seychelles.

South Africa’s High Commission to Mauritius is also non-resident accredited to Seychelles. The High Commissioner is Dr HN Manzini who was appointed on 28 February 2020. On 30 October 2015, South Africa appointed Mr Rod Thorrington as its Honorary Consul in Seychelles.

The Seychelles Government is represented by the High Commission in Pretoria and an Honorary Consulate in Durban. In October 2018, Dr Mohseen Ebrahim was appointed as an Honorary Consul in Durban. In September 2019, Mr David Germain was appointed as an Honorary Consul in Cape Town.

Visa Requirements for South Africans

Seychelles is a VISA free country and visitors are issued with a visitor’s permit upon arrival at the Seychelles International Airport subject to providing the following:

A valid passport
A return Ticket
Proof of accommodation during their stay
Proof of sufficient funds to sustain the duration of their stay

Visitors are allowed an initial thirty days' entry into Seychelles which can be extended to ninety (90) days at no cost, provided the visitor provides proof of being a bona fide tourist. The visitor has the possibility of extending his/her stay up to the span of one year provided the said proof is presented but with a payment of Seychelles Rupees (scr) 5000 for the second request onwards. The visitor must exit Seychelles after a 12 months stay in Seychelles.

Climate Info

The Seychelles has a tropical marine climate with a cooler season during the southeast monsoon (late May to September); and a warm season during the northwest monsoon (March to May). October to February is a rainy, and also cyclone season.

State and Official Visits / Bilateral Meetings

Relations have been further strengthened by the Mid-Term Review (MTR) meeting of the South Africa-Seychelles Joint Commission of Cooperation (JCC), July 2019 in Seychelles. The MTR was a follow-up meeting of the 2nd Session of the JCC, hosted by former Deputy Minister Landers and his counterpart, Mr Barry Faure in March 2018.
