History of
Relations
Full diplomatic relations between the former Federal Republic of Czechoslovakia and South Africa were established in October 1991. With the dissolution of the Federal Republic of Czechoslovakia, the Slovak Republic came into existence as a separate sovereign state. The bilateral diplomatic relations entered into with the Federal Republic of Czechoslovakia continued uninterrupted with the Slovak Republic. In April 2003 Slovakia signed the Treaty of Accession with the EU, on 29 March 2004 Slovakia became a member of NATO and joined the European Union on 1 May 2004. Slovakia joined the Eurozone in 2009.
