History of Relations

South Africa recognised the independence and sovereignty of Slovenia and Croatia on 2 April 1992. Agreements, establishing full diplomatic relations with both Slovenia and Croatia were concluded on 9 November 1992. In April 2003 Slovenia signed the Treaty of Accession with the EU and joined the NATO in March 2004 and the European Union on 1 May 2004. Slovenia joined the Eurozone in 2007.

June 2008 - Working visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr NC Dlamini Zuma which included a bilateral meeting and a meeting between the EU Troika and South Africa

September 2008 - Visit by the Chief Director: Central Europe, DFA to Slovenia

January 2010 - Senior Officials Consultations in SA

June 2010 - Slovenian President Danilo Turk visited South Africa re the Soccer World Cup

September 2012 - Senior Officials Consultations in Slovenia

December 2013 - Visit by President Borut Pahor to attend the state funeral of former President Nelson Mandela
