History of Relations

Bilateral relations between South Africa and St Vincent and the Grenadines were established on 1 September 1995. Trade with St. Vincent and the Grenadines is not significant, and during 1997 and 1998 it was too minimal to be reflected in official statistics. On 24 March 1999, South Africa's non-resident High Commissioner, Ms T Luthuli-Gcabashe, presented her credentials in Kingstown, at which time it was mentioned that South African wines were now available locally and that the construction sector offered some potential for South African companies.

High Commissioner TH Chiliza presented letters of credence to the then Governor General, Sir Charles Antrobus, on 14 May 2001. Discussions were also held with the Honorary Louis Straker, Minister of Foreign Affairs on matters of a bilateral nature, i.e. culture, trade and tourism cooperation. In March 2002, High Commissioner and the Third Secretary: Political undertook a working visit to St. Vincent.
