History of Relations

Formal relations between South Africa and eSwatini were established on 27 December 1984 at Trade Representative level. On 1 October 1993 relations were upgraded to ambassadorial level. Upon South Africa's re-entry to the Commonwealth, relations have been conducted at High Commissioner level.

eSwatini is a member of the Southern African Customs Union, which allows for a free flow of trade between the two countries.
