South Africa established formal diplomatic relations
with the United Republic of Tanzania in 1994. Upon South Africa's return to the
Commonwealth, relations have been conducted at the level of High Commission.

Health Requirements
The
most common diseases are malaria, yellow fever, cholera, hepatitis B.
South
Africans are required to present an International Vaccination Certificate
upon entry which contains a valid vaccination period for yellow fever.
Preventative measures against malaria, includes the taking of prophylaxes
and spraying. Visitors should start taking the prophylaxes two days
prior to arrival, and continue taking them until four weeks after departing from
the area. Inoculation against cholera is advised.

Climate Info
Temperatures
range between 22 degrees C and 28 degrees C, but may be cooler in the northern
areas (Arusha) in the evenings. Generally, it is hot and humid. The "long
rains" usually last from April to May.

Currency Info
The basic
unit is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS), which is divided into 100 cents. Major foreign
currencies such as the US Dollar are also acceptable and exchangeable at most
main branches of banks and private exchange bureaux. It is difficult to exchange
South African Rand and to obtain cash on credit card.
