Ms Monica Miriam Nomzamo Ngoma, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the South African Embassy in the Republic of Kazakhstan, has successfully completed the establishment of the South African Lecture Room at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. This initiative was made possible through the University’s generous provision of space and was sponsored by Paramount Group, a Global Aerospace and Defence group of companies. The Lecture Room has been named SEDIBA-SA-TSEBO, symbolizing the fountain of knowledge.
In addition to its numerous academic faculties, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, has established several cultural and language centres that promote linguistic diversity. These centres have been initiated by several embassies accredited to Kazakhstan and aim to celebrate cultural exchange, enhance language learning, and foster mutual understanding. The South African Lecture Room will serve as an important educational platform, offering students and visitors, an opportunity to gain deeper insights into the rich and diverse cultural heritage of South Africa. |

On 30 January 2025, Ms Monica Miriam Nomzamo Ngoma, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Republic of South Africa to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, delivered a heartfelt video message congratulating Turkmenistan on the 30th Anniversary of its Permanent Neutrality.
On behalf of His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa and the people of South Africa, Ms. Ngoma extended warm congratulations to His Excellency President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the people of Turkmenistan, acknowledging the country’s provision, which emphasizes peacefulness, non-interference in the affairs of other states, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as non-participation in international military organizations, which continues to serve as an enduring example of diplomacy rooted in mutual respect and cooperation.
Despite geographical distance, South Africa and Turkmenistan share a steadfast commitment to the principles of peace, multilateral cooperation, and respect for international law. She highlighted the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations, recalling the 2021 significant dialogue between Turkmenistan’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Rashid Meredov, and South Africa’s former Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms. Naledi Pandor. This engagement reaffirmed the friendly nature of the bilateral relations and expressed mutual interest in enhancing collaboration across political, diplomatic, trade, and economic spheres.
South Africa recognizes and appreciates Turkmenistan’s invaluable contributions to promoting international peace and stability. As South Africa reflects on its journey towards peace and reconciliation, it acknowledges the shared aspiration to build a world where security, prosperity, and stability are accessible to all nations. Turkmenistan’s enduring commitment to neutrality and peace aligns with South Africa’s history and commitment to multilateralism and global cooperation.
On this momentous occasion, South Africa commends Turkmenistan for the positive experience it has garnered in establishing harmonious cooperation with nations worldwide, creating effective channels for engagement, and contributing to a more peaceful global community.

Ambassador KST Matthews hosted Heritage Day in Kazakhstan on 11 December 2023. The Mission took a conscious decision to celebrate the 10 years of passing of Nelson Mandela on 5 December 2013 at the age of 95. This year he would have been 105 years. This was a learning experience to those in the audience who were less informed about South African history. |

Ambassador KST Matthews hosted National Day in Kazakhstan on 28th April 2023. The National Day celebration is the highlight of the calendar year for the South African Embassy in Kazakhstan. The celebration was held at Sheraton hotel, it was contrary to the past three years where National day was celebrated on a virtual platform due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s celebration of the National Day was under the theme “Consolidating and Safeguarding Democratic Gains”to honour those unsung heroes and heroines who fought for our freedom and paved the way for an equal, representative, non-racial, non-sexist nation. |

In line with the theme “Do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are”, for this year, the South African Mission in Kazakhstan celebrated Nelson Mandela International Day with the staff, children and mothers at the Korgau – Astana Foundation Chance Centre for Women and Children, jointly with the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Republic of Kazakhstan to mark the special day in the calendar year when everyone honour the appeal of Tata Nelson Mandela to all people when he left the care of the world to us with these poignant words: “It is in your hands now.” |

In the best tradition of the winter holiday season, the Ambassadors’ Spouses Association in Kazakhstan (ASA) has always worked to help the less fortunate via fundraising events. This year, again, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ASA was unable to host the traditional Christmas Charity Bazaar. The South African Embassy in the Republic of Kazakhstan celebrated the 22nd anniversary of its Freedom Day on 27 April 2016 at the Marriott Hotel in Astana. The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, high level Kazakh Government Officials, Heads of Missions and Diplomats, International Organisations, Universities, business persons and South Africans residing in Astana. |

Ambassador Mr. Shirish M. Soni opened the official part of the celebration by addressing the guests. During his speech, he informed that it was his last Freedom Day celebration in Astana, and he mentioned some of the latest positive developments regarding relations with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. |
